SMACK Celebrates A Milestone Year

SMACK is celebrating a milestone year, remaining a defining force on Music Row, fueled by wins that showcase both artistic achievement and a thriving company culture. In the past 12 months, 17 of their 25 writers have charted on the country charts and all 25 have landed a major label cut or release, underscoring both the depth of its talent and the consistency of results.
The publisher and home for breakthrough acts has driven #1 hits and major releases for a wide range of artists – from superstars like Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, and Old Dominion to rising voices like Ella Langley and George Birge. This includes a genre-crossing Christian radio #1 for MercyMe penned by SMACK-managed artist and writer Walker Hayes — a stretch that highlights not only the strength of SMACK’s creative engine but its adaptability across generations and styles.
“SMACK was originally created in support of Shane McAnally’s efforts as a writer and producer. It’s humbling to see how it has evolved to a place that houses 25 writers with full publishing and management teams,” shared Robert Carlton, President of SMACK. “At our core, we are still that small independent publisher striving to help our creatives reach their dreams. With this roster and staff, I truly believe we are better equipped for success than we’ve ever been.”
The past year also marked a breakthrough for three SMACK writers, each celebrating their first #1 – proof of the company’s ability to nurture the next generation of hitmakers. From career-defining songs for country legends to bold, genre-bending cuts for tomorrow’s stars, SMACK’s writers continue to shape the sound of Nashville while keeping great songwriting at the center.
2025 also brought milestone moments for SMACK’s management roster. Walker Hayes released his new album 17 Problems, following the viral success of “Fancy Like” (1B+ streams, 24 weeks at #1 on Billboard Hot Country). The project features the highly anticipated “Song For My Son” with Kane Brown, already resonating as an anthem for fathers everywhere. Jenna Davis made waves with her debut album and her lead role in M3GAN 2.0, proving herself a true cross-medium powerhouse. And SMACK founder Shane McAnally – the most nominated CMA songwriter in history – continued to expand his own creative footprint, signing with UTA and selling out his first-ever comedy shows across the country.
Despite the momentum and national recognition, SMACK continues to operate with the same tight-knit, family-like energy it was built on. The company has grown intentionally, ensuring culture scales with success and that every win is celebrated as a team. Whether it’s a first cut or a career #1, the heartbeat of SMACK remains its people – and with a loaded calendar ahead, its current momentum is only a preview of the impact still to come this year.
