Kenny Whitmire Drops "I Gave Her The Moon"

Today, breakout artist Kenny Whitmire has released his highly anticipated track, “I Gave Her The Moon.”
Whitmire initially teased the ballad on TikTok last November, catching the attention of country powerhouses Luke Combs, Tracy Lawrence, and Ella Langley with its unforgettable melody and plain-spoken lyricism. Buzz around the song eventually reached GRAMMY-nominated superstar Charlie Puth, who, of his own volition, produced a version of the track and shared it with his 22.6 million followers, helping the song reach new heights – and incredible demand.
Penned by Whitmire, Cam Newby, Lynn Hutton and produced by Lee Starr, “I Gave Her The Moon” is a classic in the making. Drenched in mournful steel guitar and punctuated with plucked acoustic guitar, the slow-rolling crooner is timeless, a traditional country story song – three chords and the truth.
“‘I Gave Her The Moon’ almost went to someone else,” Whitmire shares exclusively with Country Credits. “I’m really lucky to have publishers who believe in me a lot, and they had pitched the song out. There was a huge country artist who had this song on hold — someone I actually would, like, dream of having a cut on as a writer — but right after that happened Charlie Puth posted his produced version of it on TikTok that exploded. So, it ended up coming back to me and becoming something that’s already changed my life. I’m grateful that people seem to resonate with it and believe in it, and I’m really happy to have it out in the world finally.”
The singer-songwriter is set to continue to release more in-demand originals throughout 2026.
